Eating and Drinking

Kalkan is possibly most renown for its wide selection and high standard of restaurants located on top of roof top terraces in the Old Town overlooking the sea or along the harbour front. Dining out in Kalkan is therefore a real pleasure and deciding which of the many excellent restaurants to try becomes part of a Kalkan holiday.

A range of dishes can be found, with menus of traditional Turkish favourites such as kebabs and mezes mixed with popular European cuisine. For fish lovers a number of restaurants specialise in sea food caught daily in the Bay and displayed nightly outside the restaurants for customers to select from. Fish is sold by weight not by menu price so confirm the price with the waiter when you order.

If you are catering on a budget then the Turkish Locanta, such as Ali Baba, Deli Tomato and Bezirgan's Kitchen, restaurants are a favourite serving a selection of delicious traditional Turkish food from at all times of the day. Turkish Pizza (Pide) and pancake (Gözleme) restaurants also offer tasty food which won't break the budget and keep the children happy.

belgin's kitchen

For a real Turkish experience don't miss Belgin's Kitchen, an authentic restaurant and bar where musicians play live Turkish folk music every night and locals and Tourists kick their shoes off and have a go a Turkish Belly Dancing or enjoy a apple tobacco water pipe.

Just outside Kalkan are also a few places to eat of note. In the market town of Fethiye, just an hour away, you will find the fish market with its small fish restaurants. Just buy your fish at the counter and take it to the restaurant where they will cook it to perfection on the charcoal and serve up salad and accompaniments. Alternatively just a 15 minute ride away are the trout fish farms in the rural village of Islamlar where fresh trout pan fried in butter is served up with home made chips, fresh salads and village bread.
